We have a question or two

Luke Babbitt certainly deserves inclusion in the Wooden Pre-Season Top 50 -- his numbers will advance this coming season -- but we feel there are other WAC players who should be found there.

But the problem for Mac Hopson is that his numbers --at least with scoring -- will lessen in 2009-2010 as the player surrounding him will be better, especially fellow backcourter Steffan Johnson. Hopson's play will be even better but this type of award is a numbers-driven entity. But make no mistake, Hopson should be there.

New Mexico State's Jarmar Young is another missing talent. Check out the WAC stats and Young appears in almost every category.

Call Babbitt's listing worthy but driven by the national pub he received as a high schooler -- something Hopson and Young didn't receive.

Nevada sophomore Luke Babbitt was among the preseason top 50 candidates for the John Wooden Award, which were announced Wednesday. The 6-9, 225-pound forward is one of 13 sophomores on the list and one of only four players from a mid-major conference. Babbitt won the 2009 WAC Freshman of the Year award last season in addition to being a first-team all-league player after leading the team with 16.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game...
