Western Athletic Conference commissioner Karl Benson on Monday sought to reassure fans and recruits that the conference will survive if Hawaii departs after the 2011-12 school year.
Hawaii is expected to join the more prestigious Mountain West Conference in football and place its other teams in the cost-saving Big West Conference.
Speaking on a teleconference, Benson disputed reports that Hawaii's departure could cause the WAC to collapse because of precariously low membership. (Boise State, Fresno State and Nevada already announced they will join the Mountain West.)

You don't have to be kind just logical. That's all we ask.
