Don't forget Matt Bauscher's blog -- he's quite the writer and well worth checking out (Rod Benson has some major competition here). The ex-Boise Stater seems about due for an October post (not that we're pressuring him).

Matt Bauscher's team wins the championship

Matt Bauscher is also doing it overseas.

Remember the triple-overtime WAC tournament game in 2008 featuring Boise State against New Mexico State in Las Cruces? The Broncos won 107-102 to head to the Big Dance. Matt Bauscher did his part with 14 points and four steals in that victory and recently duplicated that role in leading his Gas Terra Flames squad to the top Dutch spot.

Bauscher, playing in the town of Groningen, was also named Player of the Year this season in Holland.

By the way, if the records we found are up to date, Bauscher's teammates on that winning BSU team are also playing abroad. Tyler Tiedeman is in Spain, Matt Nelson hooping in France and Reggie Larry is on the court in the Philippines.

We have found the prototype

"We have found the prototype" isn't the most catchy of introductions so let us elaborate:

Any former college player just needs to go to Matt Bauscher's blog to have THE model of how to remain in contact with fans and friends. Period.

It's funny, interesting and informative.

Matt is now on a new team and former Boise State player Jason Ellis is a teammate.

While still at Boise State (per the official league site), Matt was named to the All-WAC Defensive Team in 2007-2008 as well as the All-WAC Academic Team. He also earned the latter honor in 2006-2007.

The 107-102 game the Boise 2007-2008 squad won over New Mexico State in the league tournament was the best we have ever witnessed.

Matt Bauscher has seen the light

He makes it a point to combine interesting photos with his diary entries and keeps his blog extremely current.

Thanks to Matt for doing this -- we do appreciate it and wish him the best as it sounds like he is doing quite well.

We've been negligent -- here's Matt Bauscher's journal

We've been meaning to do this for some time so better late than never here is a journal that former Boise State guard Matt Bauscher is maintaining.

Bauscher finished up in Boise as a member of the WAC tourney champs and thus got to play in The Big Dance before his college career concluded -- talk about a great ending! It couldn't have happened to a better guy who is living proof about where hard work, smarts and determination can take you.

Congrats to Matt Bauscher

He's certainly not the only one heading overseas -- not even on his former team let alone the league -- but we wish to especially congratulate Matt Bauscher for earning a spot playing overseas basketball.

A former walk-on, Bauscher isn't gifted athletically and was more of an opportunistic contributor for BSU but boy did he excel in doing so. Every team needs a kid who can knock down open shots when teammates are double-teamed, who rarely turns over the ball and, most importantly, accepts his role.

Bauscher was also named to the WAC All-Defensive team this past season, a tribute to his headiness and grit.

Bauscher to continue basketball career overseas

Former Boise State men's basketball player Matt Bauscher has signed a contract to play professional basketball in the Netherlands, he said Wednesday.

Bauscher, a native of Caldwell, will play for Aris Friesland in Leeuwarden, Netherlands. The team plays in the highest division league in the country. He will leave Aug. 20.

"It's good money for first my season overseas," said Bauscher, who becomes the fourth BSU player from last season's WAC championship team to pursue a professional career. "They take care of everything. Growing up in Caldwell, I just wanted to play college basketball. Now I'm getting an opportunity to play professionally, make some money and see the world. It's pretty unbelievable."

Bauscher averaged 9.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and made 49.1 percent of his shots, including 43.5 percent from 3-point range.

Bauscher joins former teammates Matt Nelson (Spain), Tyler Tiedeman (Spain) and Reggie Larry (NBA summer league) in the professional ranks.

Kudos to Matt Bauscher

He gets the least amount of ink and praise as one of Coach Greg Graham's starers but boy did he come through big time yesterday:

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Matt Bauscher gave props to Utah State star Jaycee Carroll.

“Jaycee Carroll’s the best shooter in the nation. Period,” the Boise State guard said. “There’s not a better shooter in the nation than Jaycee Carroll.”

That may be the case, but Bauscher can also shoot the ball pretty good. The Aggies found that out the hard way.

Bauscher scored 23 points as the Broncos beat top-seeded USU 88-78 in the semifinals of the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament on Friday night at the Pan American Center.

Boise State plays New Mexico State in the championship game tonight at 7 o’clock. The game can be seen live on ESPN2.

Bauscher shot 8-for-10 from the field, including a stellar 5-for-6 mark from 3-point range.

“Our big guys were getting double-teamed and (Matt Nelson) made a couple great passes,” Bauscher said. “It seems like once you hit one, the hoop gets a little bigger. Once you hit two, it kind of gets a little bigger after that.”

Reggie Larry also scored 23 for the Broncos, while Carroll led the way for the Aggies with 20.

Bauscher nailed three of his tri-fectas in the first half to help his team overcome a seven-point deficit and open a 42-37 lead at the break.
