Friday's WAC offering (the Armon Johnson does it edition)

Boy, we come home from a culture infusion, decide to do a quick check around the WAC before relaxing and find that Armon Johnson spoiled our plans. V-e-r-y  i-n-t-e-r-e-s-t-i-n-g. Our guess is that Coach David Carter had, at the very least, an inkling. Check with AW Prince at SilverandBlueSports because he will know. You still don't have a subscription? C'mon.

Our gut (hopefully it is much more accurate than George W. Bush's and we hope that is the first and last comparison with him) is telling us that Paul George is headed in the same direction. Plus, that it's a 'no go' for Luke Babbitt and Jahmar Young. Of course, our forecasting could be marred by simple indigestion. In that vein, Johnson's call probably brought forth some acid reflux from various Nevada fans.

Time will tell.

Speaking of George, Mike James has a column today about what the Bulldog sophomore faces in his choice.

As he promised, Nick Jezierny has much more on the player who will battle for playing time at the point next season. Cue Frank Sinatra and:

"Love is lovelier, the second time around
Just as wonderful, with both feet on the ground
It's that second time you hear your love song sung
Makes you think perhaps that love, like youth, is wasted on the young
Love's more comfortable the second time you fall
Like a friendly home the second time you call
Who can say, what brought us to this miracle we've found
There are those who'd bet
Love comes but once - and yet
I'm oh so glad we met
The second time around"

Nick also provides an update on the status of Ben Mills. Isn't this both fair and logical: Chris Kupets gets granted his release wish -- how can Mills' request be denied?

Dayton Morinaga writes that Coach Gib Arnold put his returnees (at least at this point) through the paces so he could get a sense of what he has on hand.

Nick Jezierny reports on Leon Rice's first commit

One Texas junior college backcourter departs (before he arrives) the other day and another one moves right in at Boise State.

"...The new Boise State men's basketball coach received an oral commitment from Tre' Nichols, a point guard at McClennan Community College in Texas..."
Go here for the scoop from Nick Jezierny who will flesh out his post tomorrow.

Boise looking at a Texas JC-er?

Max Ivany is a longtime Texas basketball figure, still in the club team coaching ranks and one of the top evaluators of Lone Star State talent. Here is his basketball blog.

Ivany just mentioned Boise State in conjunction with a junior college backcourter:

"...Just ran into Freddie Nichols (Tre Nichols' Pops) here at KHS. Tre originally played as a frosh at Texas State but decided that it wasn't a fit. He's finishing up at McClellan JC and is currently being recruited by Iowa State, Boise State and a lot of West Coast schools. Tre was a 4 year starter here at Killeen, and a Texas D-1 Ambassador. We wish him and his family all the best..."
Tre Nichols is a 5-10 sophomore point.

Ivany also meant McLennan -- not McClellan.
