Silver & Blue Sports

We're going to be very careful how we write this so let's just say Nevada Wolf Pack sports fans should be subscribers to the Silver and Blue sports site. That is, if you want to know the very latest personnel news when it happens. That 'noise' you just heard was us dropping a hint.

What does it cost? Just a bit more per month than attending one film at the theater. Heck, go in together with a friend and grab a subscription. Yeah, it might require a few more Top Ramens for dinner but the sports 'nourishment' you will receive is well worth it.

Heck, anyone still willing to use a moniker with the letters 'dubya' in it -- this after the last eight years -- has steel cojones. Maybe solid gold. That and information well worth the cost.

The reporting that AWP does for S&B Sports is just top notch. The newspaper, Scout and Rivals are just just not in it.

The hint you're dropping is dead on. Coach Carter has refocused the program after Black April and the players and other additions to the program are just dynamite. My concerns about the direction of the program are rapidly fading. The Pack is going to have more overall size and skill in the front line for the next several years than we've seen in 5 years, and depending on how the new guys progress, maybe ever.

UNR fans are like the blind man and the elephant. They know they have their hand on something, but they don't know how big it really is....Meaning, they think everything is going to be dandy this season, when it's going to be a struggle.

Anonymous is projecting. Sure, when you bring in new recruits you never know exactly how it will play out. But, I didn't say anything about this year.

At the same time Nevada has a lot of talent returning and will be a contender for the WAC title. The only loss that matters is Malik Cooke, but we'll be better at Center, PF, SG and PG than last year and the team will have more size, depth and athleticism at PF and Center than last year. And while Cooke is gone, Joey Shaw is back and he averaged almost as many minutes as Cooke at the same position and played very well. The recruit that will play behind him should everything play out right (waiting for academics to play out) is going to be very, very good right from the start.

This year was a struggle. Next year will be a struggle. What team won't struggle next year? More than half the league has good reason to think they should contend for the title and I don't think anyone will run away with it this year. The talent and depth in the WAC is greatly improved.

But, my concern as detailed in my post above, is for the future of the program, and things are looking very good indeed on both the coaching and recruiting front. Throw in the WAC FOY for each of the last two years plus the other players still on hand and Nevada is not a team to be taken lightly. They will be better than last year, the only question is, "How much better?"
