Nevada still sniffing out players

Due to Richie Phillips' departure from the Pack, Nevada has a schollie to award if the 'right' player is located and will sign. Chris Murray has your details:

The silver lining of Richie Phillips’ career-ending injury for the Nevada basketball team is that it opened a scholarship — one that Wolf Pack coach Mark Fox intends to use for the upcoming season.

Fox said Wednesday he is looking to land a player in the spring signing period (which runs April 15-May 20).

“We’re actively pursuing something for this spring,” Fox said. “It’s going to have to be the right kind of guy. We went into the spring not thinking we had a scholarship and obviously that’s changed...”

11/01/08: LOUISIANA TECH UPDATE: "Kevin McCarthy over at Parsing the WAC, an excellent source of WAC basketball news, was contacted by somebody familiar with the recent departure of four Louisiana Tech basketball players (which we touched on last week). For those who don't know, Drew Washington, Dwayne Lathan, Orrim Tims and Brandon Mims were dismissed after meeting with coach Kerry Rupp two weeks ago. Lathan said he was blindsided by the decision. McCarthy’s source, who remained anonymous, said there was more to the story than met the eye."
