Louisiana Tech rumbled past Houston Baptist 80-57 tonight. It was 43-35 after the first 20 minutes. Olu Ashaolu put up a 21/13 double-double. It's game on versus the Cape Canaveral Calvinists next...just kidding for the uber literal.

Jason Groves stays home with pick #6
Jason Groves didn't have to look far for his sixth selection in the Top 10 WAC talents -- go here.
This has to mean Coach Marvin Menzies will have three players in the rankings. So does this translate into New Mexico State being atop the WAC in pre-season predictions?

More Thursday WAC linkeroos
Marvin Menzies' weekly interview is brought to you here by Sam Wasson.
Jason Groves offers a feature here on the often overlooked Hamidu Rahman, who is definitely drawing more defensive attention this season.
+++++
Travis Mason-Bushman's weekly WAC power rankings are available here.
+++++
You have to love the young ballers who have yet to turn robotic in their dealings with the press. Daniel Lyght has a preview here of the Fresno State - New Mexico State matchup with a great quote from Jahmar Young. You thankfully don't get the inert "we play one game at a time" or "our opponent is very, very good and we'll be lucky to win" from Young. No, we are not going to give away what Young said -- hit the link.
+++++
Nick Jezierny has a feature on possible Bronco enochlophobia here. We're going with plain ol' coincidence.
+++++
Brian McInnis has a report on Jeremy Lay's season-ending injury here -- of course, this has to be happening at UH.

Hamidu Rahman is the WAC POW
Per Jason Erickson, the WAC Media Relations major domo, New Mexico State's Hamidu Rahman is the latest WAC Player of the Week:
"New Mexico State's Hamidu Rahman has been named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 25-31. The honor marks the first career WAC Player of the Week award for Rahman.
Rahman, a sophomore center from Somerset, N.J. (American Christian), led New Mexico State to a 91-77 road victory at Louisiana Tech, handing the Bulldogs their first home loss of the season. Rahman tied his career high with 22 points in the win. Rahman shot a career-best with 10 made field goals and 15 attempts, and was a perfect 2-of-2 from the charity stripe. He also pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds with one block. The performance marks the second time that Rahman has surpassed the 20-point plateau in his career.
Other nominees:
- Boise State senior guard Anthony Thomas
- Fresno State freshman guard/forward Jerry Brown
- Idaho sophomore forward Luiz Toledo
- Louisiana Tech senior forward Magnum Rolle
- Utah State junior forward Nate Bendall"
