The news about Jahmar Young is that there is none

From Jason Groves column today in the Las Cruces Sun-News comes this:

Jahmar Young situation drags on

Menzies was expecting a ruling from the NCAA regarding the eligibility of freshman guard Jahmar Young by the end of last week. It didn't come, and the frustration level is clearly building for Aggie players, coaches and fans.

"They couldn't come to a conclusion so I'm hoping on Monday or Tuesday," Menzies said. "It's a frustrating situation. They act like we are not in season or something."

This is like "Waiting For Godot" who for the literary unfamiliar, never arrives.

It's certainly curious that the NCAA either cannot or will not give a timeframe that we know of -- although NMSU staff have indicated at times that a ruling was imminent. Whether the Aggies were reading something into a statement made by the NCAA or operating by a reading of the tea leaves -- who knows?

What is apparent is that so much of the talk emanating from the NCAA about being there for student athletes is just that -- talk.

On a separate but related note, FREE HERB POPE t-shirts have apparently been sighted in Las Cruces although no photos have yet to turn up on-line to the best of our knowledge. Such will certainly not have any effect on the NCAA's disposition regarding Pope's eligibility but certainly must be leaving Jahmar Young wondering where are the freedom shirts featuring his name? He must be thinking he's chopped liver or something.
