Recognition for an unheralded Aggie

We always like to see this -- a senior, expected to be shunted aside by incoming talent [in full confession, even we though so], is currently the backbone of the Utag State Aggie frontcourt.

Congrats to Stephen DuCharme.

Aggie forward is back in his comfort zone

Officially, forward Stephen DuCharme is listed at 6-foot-8. It's a generous measurement for Utah State's second-leading scorer, who has poured in 20 or more points three times this season.

The situation was a bit different last year. The Aggies lacked a consistent, physical post player and coach Stew Morrill turned to his junior college transfer from Andover, Kan. Suddenly, DuCharme found himself staring into the chest of taller, beefy guys.

Nevada's Nick Fazekas and Utah's Luke Nevill were among a handful of opponents who presented obvious match up problems, as did the stout John Bryant, the center for today's Utah State opponent, Santa Clara.

"It was very uncomfortable," said DuCharme, who never complained. "I just tried to utilize position."

DuCharme fought mass with quickness and foot speed, as well as a manic work ethic in the weight room. With a sculpted upper body - and shoulders broad enough for two - DuCharme is a poster boy for the benefits of lifting. And he did well enough, averaging 10 points and five rebounds as the Aggies won 23 games...
