A verbal contract isn't worth the paper it's written on

SeldomSeenSmith at the Blue Aggies basketball forum has noticed a big change in the DeShawn Stephens commitment article at the Santa Monica College athletics site -- go here.

If accurate and there is no reason to doubt it since an SMC staffer had to purposely go into the previous article and rearrange the listing of colleges, it would be appropriate to also post an explanation. Was it the Reed (Antelope Valley College) verbal or something else behind the switch?

For those who don't know, Drew Washington, Dwayne Lathan, Orrim Tims and Brandon Mims were dismissed after meeting with coach Kerry Rupp two weeks ago. Lathan said he was blindsided by the decision. McCarthy’s source, who remained anonymous, said there was more to the story than met the eye."
