SJSU and Hawaii were tied at 70 at the end of regulation and it finished 83-81 in favor of the Rainbow Warriors, whose shaky foul line numbers almost came back to bite them. Joston Thomas finished with a double-double of 29/12 while Vander Joaquim posted his own of 17/10. UH shot 54% overall but just 18-31 at the charity stripe. Wil Carter enjoyed his own 22/12 double-double for the Spartans plus backcourter James Kinney added 21. SJSU had a 16-point lead in the second half.
Brian McInnis took to Twitter.
Dayton Morinaga and Jimmy Durkin were present and accounted for.
+++++
The score was a remarkable 21-16 at halftime as Fresno State hosted Utah State and the Dogs carried that to the end, winning 60-54. Bulldog Kevin Olekaibe was on top with 26 points, Jerry Brown added 14/8 plus Tyler Johnson's line was 12 points, five rebounds, five assists and a trio of steals. Morgan Grim's 13/8 was the best Aggie performance. Preston Medlin also scored 13 points but didn't shoot well and totaled five turnovers. Brockeith Pane produced six TOs.
Robert Kuwada, Shawn Harrison (who again traveled with the team. kudos, kudos, kudos) and Matt Sonnenberg all check in.

Josh Wright checks in from the Vandal perspective.
+++++
Utah State in in the San Joaquin to face Fresno State.
USU will be mad, based on the late loss up in Reno but, hey, Fresno State has two WAC wins, one over a team (Idaho) that took down the Aggies.
Shawn Harrison (who is in Fresno) previews, as does Kraig Williams, and Tony Jones.
Robert Kuwada zeroes in of Kevin Olekaibe's recent shooting slump.

Sunday report on Saturday's games
It was 28 apiece at the half between host Louisiana Tech and Nevada and the second 20 minutes concluded with the Wolf Pack winning by two, 65-63. Chris Murray was twittering.
Jerit Roser has a game report and Chris Murray was in Ruston (yet another high five to the Gazette-Journal management). Plus, Chris offers a 'notes' column.
+++++
In Las Cruces, New Mexico State led Fresno State 35-27 at halftime, then lost the lead and it was 45 up at the 8:40 mark. The score went back and forth until the the Aggies pulled slightly ahead late and then triumphed 60-56. Wendell McKines was again out front for NMSU with a 20/10 double-double. The Bulldogs were led by Kevin Olekaibe's 17 points. Coach Marvin Menzie's group won the boards battle 42-24, 17 of which were offensive. New Mexico State shot 7-18 from the charity stripe.
Jason Groves tweeted the matchup.
Jason also serves up a multi-media take on the contest while Anthony Esparza offers his perspective.
+++++
Utah State, powered by Kyisean Reed's 21 points, eight rebounds and three blocks, notched a victory it needed with an 82-65 victory over visiting San Jose State. Saturday's game previews and more
Louisiana Tech enjoys the privilege of hosting Nevada tonight and it might be a Bulldog squad minus freshman backcourter Raheem Appleby due to injury. It's appearing to these eyes that the Wolf Pack will be way too strong upfront for LT.
Chris Murray provides his keys to the game plus a prediction. Chris also serves up another look at the pairing. Jerit Roser looks at how LT is approaching the game.
+++++
Fresno State has to face what will be an undeniably upset New Mexico State squad in Las Cruces.
Robert Kuwada checks in.
+++++
Will San Jose State get Spectrum-ized or will facing a similar style of play to Thursday's opponent (Idaho) aid the Spartans against Utah State? Keith Shamburger is out for the game due his flagrant foul late in the loss to Idaho.
Tony Jones and Shawn Harrison pre-game the duet.
Matt Sonnenberg has a piece up on the USU addition of Matt Lopez. Anyone have the details on the how and why of Lopez, a young man out of New Joisey, becoming a Logan resident -- usually there's a coaching connection of some degree.
+++++
Hawaii meets up with Idaho in Moscow in a game the Rainbow Warriors really need but one the Vandals also want in order to keep close to Nevada and tied with New Mexico State.
Dayton Morinaga has a preview.
Brian McInnis provides a 'notes' column.

Thursday's a.m. look at tonight's matchups
Four games tonight ...
* Louisiana Tech hosts Fresno State in what should be a close one.
Jerit Roser writes about Tech's homecourt troubles so far while Robert Kuwada profiles Bulldog Jerry Brown.
* New Mexico State and Nevada go at it in Las Cruces (to ESPN: in what should be a televised game). This one will feature duels between equally talented, skilled and athletic bigs and smalls.
Jason Groves previews as does Chris Murray with his four keys/prediction piece and then Chris takes a second look. Sam Wasson also previews
* Idaho and San Jose State face off in Red Square, make that Moscow. Which team is Putin rooting for?
Vandal Nation serves up a five minute Spartan scouting report video out of the mouths of Kyle Barone and Mansa Habeeb.
* Utah State welcomes Hawaii Spectrum-style.
Dayton Morinaga takes a multi-media look at the pairing with Kraig Williams, Tony Jones and Shawn Harrison all also checking in about a contest that should tell us much more about both teams.

Friday's report on last night's matchups
Yowza wowsa! New Mexico State 80-60 over visiting Utah State as a 46-26 second half did the job. Give the Freshman of the Year award to Daniel Mullings now as he led the southern Aggies with 17 points. Kyisean Reed paced USU with 18 points and six boards.
Sam Wasson reports while Jason Groves offers print and photos plus a video report on the outcome. From the northern Aggie perspective, Tony Jones and Shawn Harrison were in Las Cruces (a shout out to the The Salt Lake Tribune and Herald Journal execs) plus Matt Sonnenberg weighs in.
Tony also tweeted the game as did Jason.
+++++
In overtime, it was Hawaii 74 and host Fresno State 68 as Warrior Vander Joaquim posted a 23/16 double-double while Zane Johnson totaled 24 points on 6-12 from long range. Garrett Johnson paced the Dogs with 18 markers and Kevin Olekaibe scored 15 (on 5-17 shooting). UH defender deluxe Garrett Jefferson played 43 minutes so let's look at the game reports to see if his presence was a factor.
Dayton Morinaga, Jeff Portnoy and Robert Kuwada serve up summaries. Brian McInnis tweeted the tussle.
+++++
Idaho went into Ruston in need of a win and did just that, 90-88 in overtime versus Louisiana Tech. Kyle Barone went for 13 points and 15 boards while Deremy Geiger went for 23 (6-9 on treys), Landon Tatum 20 and Stephen Madison 18. For LT, Brandon Gibson was feeling it with a 22/13 double-double and Raheem Appleby had 19 points (17 shot attempts), Trevor Gaskins 15 and Cordarius Johnson 12.
Josh Wright has the very interesting details as does Theo Lawson and Jerit Roser.
+++++
Nevada hosted San Jose State University and won both halves in an 81-57 victory. Jerry Evans scored 19 points to lead the Pack (an en fuego 5-6 from long distance) and his seven boards also were tops on the team. Coach David Carter's squad shot 54% overall and an amazing 16-32 from three-point land. James Kinney led the Spartans with 16 points but on 17 shot attempts.
Chris Murray supplies the details and also a notes column. Chris also tweeted the contest.

Saturday's WAC digest (it's already time to get serious edition)
Things really gets cookin' tonight with every team in action.
+++++
In the heavyweight tussle of the day (or night), Utah State and Nevada climb on to the court in what should be a spectacular pairing what with both playing really sharp ball.
Chris Murray writes about the contest. Chris also offers his keys and a prediction.
Matt Sonnenberg, Tony Jones, Shawn Harrison and Kraig Williams all preview the event (which should be on ESPN2 instead of some molasses of excitement poker tournament).
+++++
Idaho welcomes Fresno State and the burden for victory is on the Vandals, who were bopped by visiting Nevada Thursday night. The Verlin-ites were read a degree of the riot act by their coach after looking and playing 'uninspired' against the Wolf Pack. Look for a quick hook if anyone isn't pedal to the metal for the hosts. An 0-2 record, with both being home games, would put Idaho in a big hole.
Idaho athletics previews as does Bulldog athletics.
+++++
Hawaii bids aloha to San Jose State with an apparently okay Zane Johnson.
Dayton Morinaga goes multimedia in looking at the matchup plus Jeff Portnoy checks in.
+++++
Louisiana Tech and New Mexico State will tangle down Ruston way in what should be a very intriguing matchup -- wings and guards versus frontcourters in a generalizing way.
Jason Groves looks at the pairing as does Jerit Roser.
Sam Wasson serves up his weekly interview with Coach Marvin Menzies.

Sunday's heavenly WAC hoops chronicle
Gary Wilkinson is back on the court in New Zealand and picking up where he left off.
+++++
Texas prep frontcourter Holt Harmon has given a verbal to Cornell and cancelled his other trips, one of which was to be Logan.
+++++
Dayton Morinaga again goes multi media on open gym Rainbow Warriors style
+++++
Matt Christensen at the Aggie Fanatics site looks at the USU starting five in 2015.
+++++
Ryan Gorcey reports (a Rivals sub is required) that CA high schooler Arik Armstead is still mentioning Nevada among his top suitors. PTW finds it difficult to believe that some of those major football powers in Armstead's list are ultimately going to buy in to him playing both sports in college. Plus, he's surprisingly still listing Miami which may not even have a gridiron program a couple of years hence.

+++++
Referencing a couple of cultural icons, Joe Santoro writes about Nevada and the road this season. The traveling Wolf Pack match up with San Jose State University this evening.
+++++

+++++
Dayton Morinaga has been busy with a post about a European point currently playing back East who is interested in UH (as well as Utah State) and another focus of Gib Arnold's this week. Brian McInnis has posted an entry at his Court Sense blog.

+++++
Host Nevada re-started the momentum in a 'Hunt' against San Jose State University.

+++++
It's two in a row now for Fresno State as last night's was a victory over Louisiana Tech..

The Friday morning scoreboard
Tony Jones was prophetic as visiting Utah State used Mr. Clean Energy in propelling past San Jose State University 84-65. Shawn Harrison and Tony Jones were there (thanks to HJ management and the suits at the Salt Lake Tribune respectively-- now, do they get to go to Hawaii?) plus Tony tweeted the game. Ray Hacke covered the game for the Mercury News.
+++++
Sam Wasson/Bleed Crimson is all over New Mexico State's overtime win against the Boise Staters. 21 crisp photos are here, AggieVision video here and the game report here. Jason Groves offers a game report. 47 Aggie free throws, 13 coming in the OT period, will probably require some floor touchup around the charity stripes in Las Cruces.
+++++
Host Nevada got past Fresno State -- read all about it from Chris Murray here, here and here. Joe Santoro is here. Mark Littlefield, along with three superb game photos, is here. The Fresno Bee's report is here. Daniel Lyght tweeted the contest.
+++++
Ethan Conley and Jason Pugh report on Louisiana Tech getting into the WAC win column with a victory over Idaho.
+++++
Besides the games, Dayton Morinaga has a feature revealing the nicknames of various UH basketballers. Brian McInnis writes about the Rainbow Warriors getting defensive, but in a good way (both the quality of the article and the effort and focus of the players). Jeff Portnoy muses about hoops and life, not necessarily in that order.

The Sunday report of last night's games
Even lipstick wouldn't cover the fact that the Utah State - New Mexico State matchup was, for the fans, an I-went-to-a-college-basketball-game-and-a-hockey-match broke out. This just in: Wendell's feelings about Logan just intensified.
Shawn Harrison, Tony Jones, Kraig Williams and Weston Mangum all report on the game. The Cache Valley Daily News' Craig Peterson offers 38 game photos.
From the NMSU perspective, here is Sam Wasson.
Anyone know what outfit BillS wore in The Spectrum last night? Better yet, any photos?
+++++
Chris Murray is all over -- game report, game notes -- Nevada's getting past visiting Louisiana Tech. It was another not so pretty affair. Mark Littlefield offers a game report plus a pair of ultra crisp photos. Joe Santoro completes the trifecta with his take. The Wolf Packers are now riding a three-game winning streak.
+++++
Make it three in a row also for resurgent Hawaii as the Rainbow Warriors downed visiting SJSU. The Rustoleum folks should be approaching Bill Amis ASAP.
Dayton Morinaga and Brian McInnis took it in.
+++++
Boise State went into the heart of darkness and emerged with a close win, abetted by a controversial non-call with just over a minute to play. Hint: the ball didn't touch metal.
Nick Jezierny traveled to Moscow, as did Josh Wright.
PTW resides in central California and we have a very basic cable package. While dial flipping early last night, we caught the last five minutes of this contest on a Comcast station that usually shows regional high school games. There was a WN (we think) insignia on the screen but we're not sure what that stood for. Who really impressed us (but we don't know who it was): the color announcer. He was sharp, knew the game and wasn't afraid to spell it out when a player did something poorly. Can anyone fill us in with a name?

+++++

+++++
Joe Santoro issues grades based on the Wolf Pack performance versus New Mexico State. Neil Henderson at Silver and Blue Sports has a Nevada and visiting Louisiana Tech preview.
+++++
Can host Hawaii remain ahead of San Jose State University as the two tangle tonight?
Brian McInnis, Dayton Morinaga (including video) and Jeff Portnoy all write about the matchup. Brian also offers some Court Sense notes.
+++++
Fresno State is out of conference tonight, hosting Seattle. Daniel Lyght serves up more perspective on the Bulldog loss in Hawaii. The Chieftains lost early in the season to LA TECH in Irvine, beat Idaho at home and lost to SJSU at home. Daniel also provides a blog entry on the need for a three-shooter to emerge for Steve Cleveland. The Fresno Bee's Jeff Davis has the Bulldogs as full-fledged members of the Bricklayers Union.

The world of the WAC on Thursday
Tony Jones lauds the Utah State basketball program, a collective which has the chance to set a consecutive winning streak record.
The last shall be first and the first shall be last, unless we're talking USU hoops. Shawn Harrison continues the theme of the Aggie steamroller.
Kraig Williams also previews the Utah State - Louisiana Tech matchup.
+++++
To DH or not to DH (and we're talking basketball), that is the question posed by Nick Jezierny.
+++++
Daniel Lyght looks at what Fresno State must upgrade as the Bulldogs faces Hawaii in the islands.
Dayton Morinaga previews the FSU - UH get-together.
Brian McInnis does the same.
+++++
It's Reno and Logan next for New Mexico State and Jason Groves fills us in.
Per Joe Santoro, Nevada wants "to be a contender" (using your best "On The Waterfront" Marlon Brando imitation) in the WAC and feels ready to do so.
It's not Gillenwater v. Story per se tonight but the pair have some history and each would like to top the other as Chris Murray writes.

Jason Groves has a post about the matchup, writing about the health of both teams here.
+++++
The Nevada versus host Boise State get-together should be a fascinating one with a youth against seniority theme. Plus, will the Broncos still be thinking about the loss to USU?

Shawn Harrison tripped to Reno (kudos to the HJ management) and filed this this on the USU - Wolf Pack tête-à-tête. Tony Jones was also present (a salute to the suits at the SLT) and serves up this game report and blog entry. The latter contains a gem of an observation about Brockeith Pane.

Monday evening WAC items
Travis Mason-Bushman reports that Vandal recruit Djim Bandoumel has received the nod from the NCAA Clearinghouse. Go here to read about this. A tip o' the hat to Travis for letting us know.
A quick piece of advice for Mr. Bandoumel: forget college, forget college basketball -- set up a business as an obvious expert guide through the Clearinghouse maze. You'll make millions.
It literally is amazing that he was cleared at this point in time considering (1) the trend has been that the season begins with many recruits awaiting an outcome and the Clearinghouse folks then enter their winter hibernation AND (2) Idaho and the WAC are not on the level of say a BCS school which can 'command' more attention.
+++++
Chris Murray has much more on Devonte Elliott's eligibility to play for Nevada this coming season -- glad it happened before he ran out of eligibility. (are we in a bad mood? maybe, but how about the NCAA tossing a few million greenbacks towards resolving the sloth-like pace of eligibility determinations?)
+++++
Here is a 3 hours old tweet from Jeff Goodman: "No clue if its out there, but source told me former KY commit and Gonzaga guard G.J. Vilarino is headed to Appalachian State. Ideal level." Does this cause heartbreak in Fresno or a shoulder shrug?
Three hours ago Dave Telep tweeted this: "Appalachian State added Michael Neal and transfer GJ Vilarino (Gonzaga) today. Appy State's backcourt for 2010 is locked up. Nice work."
Hmmm, anyone ever seen Misters Goodman and Telep together in the same gym?
