Chris Murray with more on JaVale McGee

JaVale McGee keeps making the rounds of NBA teams and, of course, Chris Murray, is right on top of this. More and more we're believing that McGee will be a boom-or-bust NBA-er but it will take 3-4 years before any 'label' can be appropriately ascribed.

Step one in the transformation from a college player to an NBA player is declaring for the draft. JaVale McGee did that in style, earning a pretty nifty nickname ("The Big Secret"). Step two is getting into NBA shape, which is what McGee did when he trained for a month in a secluded location immediately following his draft deceleration. Step three is wowing scouts at the NBA's pre-draft camp. And step four is going from city to city participating in workouts for a handful of teams. Both McGee and his former teammate Marcelus Kemp are going through that process right now...

11/01/08: LOUISIANA TECH UPDATE: "Kevin McCarthy over at Parsing the WAC, an excellent source of WAC basketball news, was contacted by somebody familiar with the recent departure of four Louisiana Tech basketball players (which we touched on last week). For those who don't know, Drew Washington, Dwayne Lathan, Orrim Tims and Brandon Mims were dismissed after meeting with coach Kerry Rupp two weeks ago. Lathan said he was blindsided by the decision. McCarthy’s source, who remained anonymous, said there was more to the story than met the eye."
