This is a shocker

Chris Murray has unearthed costs, profits and losses for Nevada athletics and some of the numbers are eye-opening.

Not to give away all that much:

* Nevada mens basketball carries the athletic department bigtime

* Wolf Pack womens basketball loses $1,000,000 annually (in the past three years)

PTW surmises that most, if not all, of the other WAC mens basketball programs are not earning anywhere near the Mark Fox/David Carter total. Are the other WAC womens teams also losing a million bucks a season, or even close to that?

11/01/08: LOUISIANA TECH UPDATE: "Kevin McCarthy over at Parsing the WAC, an excellent source of WAC basketball news, was contacted by somebody familiar with the recent departure of four Louisiana Tech basketball players (which we touched on last week). For those who don't know, Drew Washington, Dwayne Lathan, Orrim Tims and Brandon Mims were dismissed after meeting with coach Kerry Rupp two weeks ago. Lathan said he was blindsided by the decision. McCarthy’s source, who remained anonymous, said there was more to the story than met the eye."
