Long Beach State came into Logan both high on a win in Boise and with the sense that maybe Utah State could be taken down.
WRONG.
81-53.
Stew Morrill's squad shot 49% and held the 49ers to 33% while Tai Wesley put up a 16/14 double double. However, Tyler Newbold's shooting woes continued (1-5 overall, 0-4 on treys). Nate Bendall played 17 minutes.
+++++
In-state rival Northwestern State hosted Louisiana Tech and triumphed 85-78. NW shot 50% overall and held the Bulldogs to 38%.
What makes the loss all the more intriguing is that LT's DeAndre Brown exploded for 31 points (9-18 overall, 6-8 on treys) and Olu Ashaolu went for a double-double of 22/10, including 9-9 at the foul line. He entered the game successful on 38-63 free throw attempts.
