Idaho’s Kyle Barone has been named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 25-March 3.
Barone, a senior center from Garden Grove, Calif. (Pacifica HS),
recorded his 14th and 15th double-doubles of the season as Idaho went
1-1 last week. He recorded 13 points and 15 rebounds in a 74-56 loss at
UTSA. He connected on 6-of-11 shots from the field and made 1-of-3 shots
at the charity stripe. He also dished out three assists against the
Roadrunners. Barone scored 26 points and pulled down 14 rebounds in a
90-81 win at Texas State. He also tallied three blocks and two assists.
He hit 12-of-17 shots from the field and was a perfect 2-of-2 at the
free throw line. His 26 points against the Bobcats was his eighth
20-plus point outing of the season, and one point shy of his career high
of 27 points.
On the week, Barone averaged 19.5 points, 14.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and
1.5 blocks per game. He shot 64.3 percent (18-of-28) from the field.

* Louisiana Tech senior guard Brandon Gibson averaged 16.0 points per game in a pair of wins last week
* New Mexico State senior forward Bandja Sy scored 21 points with 11 rebounds in a game at Denver
* Seattle U senior forward Chad Rasmussen averaged 18.5 points to help the Redhawks to a 1-1 record last week
* Texas State senior forward Matt Staff averaged 18.0 points per game as the Bobcats went 1-1
* Utah State junior guard TeNale Roland posted back-to-back 12-point scoring games last week.
