Updates of a sort on two former UH players

Anthony Salter left Hawaii basketball in mid-season and has landed at D-2 Clayton State in Georgia, a member of the Peach Belt Conference. The 5-foot-11 point, a native of Tallahassee, has one year of eligibility remaining.

Plus, Adam Desautels, an assistant coach at powerhouse Westwind Prep, recently responded to our query about the whereabouts of Bo Barnes. Here's his email:

"Bo has not decided yet. Last I heard, he is looking at a program in California. Possibly St. Mary's, provided they have a scholarship open"
Here is Adam's Twitter account to follow.

It's all Hawaii so far

There's been no rest for the Hawaii basketball scribes as the comings and going continue in the islands.

Dayton Morinaga, Brian McInnis and Jeff Portnoy provide the coverage.

sportsbow also came across this on Anthony Odunsi at the SportsHawaii.com basketball message board so Coach Arnold may not be done yet.

So who shoots the trey for the Rainbow Warriors when Zane Johnson is resting or in foul trouble? Miah Ostrowski with 34 attempts and 27% accuracy took the next most long distance shots and he won't be available until late December. Bo Barnes is a one-trick pony but his absence leaves a hole, or as the optimist says, an opening.

Oops, just found this on Fresno State hoops.

Tuesday: another light a.m. post

Shawn Harrison offers an intriguing column on road play the first two weeks into the conference schedule. Plus, he provides a number of notes about USU's play and players.

From USU athletics: "For the second-straight week, Utah State's Tai Wesley is leading the nation in field goal shooting after making 8-of-10 shots in his last game, while Utah State is once again receiving votes in both polls.

Wesley, a 6-7, 240-pound forward from Provo, is currently shooting 66.7 percent from the field (84-126) to rank first in the nation. Wesley also ranks third in the Western Athletic Conference in rebounding (8.6), fourth in blocked shots (1.13), fifth in scoring (15.2), 11th in assists (2.69) and 15th in free throw shooting (.709)."

Congrats to UH's Bo Barnes, enrolled in 19 units this semester AND playing basketball.

Tuesday's WAC world

Ronnie Stevens will sign this week rather than April with Hawaii -- Dayton Morinaga has the details.

Buckin' broncos or burying baskets? Bo Barnes has chosen the latter -- at least for now. Again DM offers the background. It's actually roping not bucking but what the hey. We can't wait for the headlines if Barnes comes through with strong games against Boise State.

Brian McInnis writes an 'overall' piece on Hawaii hoops, with an Anthony Salter good news update.

Per Nick Jezierny, BSU faces Adams State and Coach Leon Rice has some personnel decisions to make.

Jason Groves paints an impressionistic picture of Aggie hoops after an exhibition victory and also offers some in-game analysis.

Bo Barnes picks...plus more

SCOUT's Evan Daniels writes that Bo Barnes, the 6-foot-4 shooter out of Arizona, has selected Hawaii as his college choice. Go here (a SCOUT sub is required).

The beat reporters for UH basketball not only beat but destroyed the national specialists on this one, especially if you are looking for depth.

Read Dayton Morinaga for much, much more on Barnes, plus some tidbits on the UH basketball banquet.

Santa Clara has inked Collin County College (Texas) 6-foot-3 backcourter Lamb Autry -- the only reason we are listing this is because Hawaii was also mentioned as being a suitor.

+++++

Fresno State (among many other schools) is taking a look at freshman Givon Crump, the 6-foot-7 Arizona prepster who recently announced his is leaving Baylor. Anthony Ray has the details here (a Rivals sub is required).

Sunday's WAC news and notes

This is a low calorie version:

Gib Arnold is hoping the backcourt firm of Shamburger and Barnes open up shop in Hawaii next season:

The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team is still looking to score during this recruiting season.

The latest targets for the Rainbow Warriors are a pair of high-scoring guards.

Bo Barnes of Arizona and Keith Shamburger of California are visiting Hawai'i this weekend. Both players have Hawai'i listed among their final choices...
Go here for the remainder.

We don't know about Barnes but Shamburger has been quoted as saying he will decide on Monday.

Shameless plug #2 -- passed on from Travis Mason-Bushman's latest tweet:
"Shameless plug: I'm graduating in a month. If you need an experienced, social media-savvy reporter — for sports or news — let's talk."
Some enterprising sports or news editor should jump on this one if you desire Renaissance Man-style reporting: news, interviews, videos -- you name it. Go here for the fullness of T-MB's experience.
