The Sunday unheavenly WAC hoops results

It was a 1-4 Saturday for the Western Athletic Conference.

Host Oregon was two better than Fresno State in each half and won 74-70. Jonathan Wills led the way with 20 points while Kevin Foster totaled 11 points and six boards. The Ducks took 13 less shots but connected on 56% of their attempts. Kevin Olekaibe tweaked an ankle and played just 18 minutes.

Visiting Louisiana Tech lost both halves, the initial one by 13 points, and fell 78-62 to Southern Mississippi. Trevor Gaskins paced the Bulldogs with 15 points. LT was out-shot 38% to 51%. Louisiana Tech athletics provides a game report as does The Clarion-Ledger.

Utah State went to Wichita State and the Shockers came away with an 83-76 win. Brockeith Pane topped the Aggie scoring with 18 points and Preston Medlin contributed 15. Redshirt frosh Danny Berger was again in double figures with 12. USU was out-boarded 35-20 plus the Shockers made six more treys.

Nevada was six better -- 76 to 70 -- than host Montana. Deonte Burton led the Wolf Pack with 21 points while Olek Czyz was next with 17 points. Dario Hunt garnered 10 rebounds.

Cal Poly came north and made it a sweep of San Jose State by the score of 47-40. SJSU shot 24% overall, 28% on treys and had nine more free throw attempts than the Mustangs who shot 33% and 29% respectively. Keith Shamburger went for the trifecta, leading the Spartans in points (19), rebounds (7) and assists (4).
