Reading through the lines, it appears this move is primarily academically driven

What's interesting is this is the same JC and basketball program selected by Jordan Coleman, who departed from Hawaii in mid-season.

New Mexico State tops Utah State

Now wasn't that a game showing off the best of the WAC? Certain Beehive state fans may not feel this way but the outcome works. Two WAC teams will now enter the Big Dance, infusing greater respect and league attention, plus the dollar amounts earned will be higher. We say: what's not to like?

We've often though there was a not to exceed karma quotient at play -- Idaho basketball bathed in it last season, Vandal football in 2oo9-2010. It's more than likely because the BCS (them that has the gold, rules) consortium allows only excess karma to be filtered down to the tired, the poor, the huddled masses, the wretched refuse, the homeless and the tempest-tost. Confirmation that two NMSU players are gone

Here's a nice NMSU men's basketball update from Jason Groves, with confirmation that two Aggies won't be in Las Cruces this season. One in particular, Faisal Aden, really hurts as he had the promise of being the best New Mexico State backcourter once he gained some experience.

LAS CRUCES — New Mexico State staffers are currently on the road across the country, including Akron, Ohio, to watch 75 players at the Lebron James Academy...

...The July evaluation period is divided up into two weeks. The first started on Sunday and runs through July 15. Coaches are again allowed to evaluate players from July 22-31...

...Two players who won't have scholarship needs are incoming freshman and San Diego product Faisal Adenn and junior college transfer Paris Carter. Both players struggled academically — Carter missing the majority of last season with academic issues and Aden struggling academically while on the NMSU campus in the spring semester last year. Menzies said both players will not return.....

Wendell McKines finally practicing at NMSU

Teddy Feinberg of the Las Cruces Sun-News has reported on his blog that the NCAA has finally cleared freshman recruit Wendell McKines to officially practice.

The 6-4 McKines is a master of the spectacular , the physical and one of the quickest players in getting off the floor but needs major work on his handle in a set-up offense and added shooting range and consistency.

He'll help this season in spots but will face the adjustment of having a power forward skills set in a small forward body.
