WAC recruiting in Illinois

Roy and Harv Schmidt are Misters Illinois Basketball. Their site -- Illinois Prep Bulls-eye -- is THE site for Illinois high school basketball recruiting news.

Because of their stature, we recently contacted the pair to see if any of the WAC teams were nosing around The Land of Lincoln.

Sure enough, Roy and Harv were right on top of their game and communicated back to us:
"Here is what we are aware of to this point. We are sure that there could be more developments as we head into the July evaluation period. If so, we will keep you posted.

... Nevada has offered a scholarship in the 2012 class to Jerron Wilbut, a 6-foot-2 point guard from Downers Grove South High School. Wilbut has performed solidly throughout the spring and early summer and ranks among the top 15-20 players in Illinois from 2012. Nevada will continue to recruit the state of Illinois extremely hard as long as Dennis Gates is on the staff, as he has strong connections throughout the Chicago area and beyond.

... Boise State has offered 6-foot-7 class of 2011 forward James Farr from Evanston Township High School. Farr is a rapidly emerging big man who is long, athletic and has considerable up side. We see him as more of a 3-man right now, as he likes to face up and needs to add strength.

... Hawaii has shown interest in 5-foot-9 class of 2011 point guard Jay Parker from Thornton Township High School. Parker is one of the more underrated point guards from Illinois in a 2011 class that is loaded at that position. He has tremendous scoring ability, handles the ball well, is quick to the basket and has strong leadership traits.

... With the connection that San Jose State has to Hyde Park Academy, we would not be surprised to see them get involved with two D-1 caliber recruits who currently play at Hyde Park -- 6-foot-6 class of 2011 forward Aqui Shareef and 5-foot-9 class of 2012 point guard Treyshaun Jones. We believe that both would be ideal recruits for the WAC."
We graciously thank Roy and Harv -- two of the nicest people in the business -- for their information. Remember, their site is Illinois Prep Bulls-eye. College coaches subscribe to their evaluation service -- the imprimatur that demonstrates Roy and Harv know of what they write.
