Chris Murray with a player prediction overview

How's this one from Peter Drucker: "Trying to predict the future is like trying to drive down a country road at night with no lights while looking out the back window.”

Or maybe this hits home from Niels Bohr, with tongue firmly in cheek: "Prediction is very difficult, especially about the future."

It's exactly the same with generating opinions about who will transition the best from high school to college basketball. There are very few so-called 'sure bets' even if such are proclaimed with 100% certification or does everyone forget Tony Mandarich or Ryan Leaf? (sorry to switch playing fields on you and also moving from college to pros but it's too early in the morning to think harder).

Anyway, here's Chris Murray with a piece about we should all keep in mind when it comes to the news kids who are coming to our favorite school(s).

College recruiting sites far from perfect

Four years ago almost to the day, Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski signed a pair of players he thought would be the program's cornerstones.

Those players were five-star recruits Josh McRoberts and Greg Paulus, universally lauded as top-10 prospects in the Class of 2005.

But McRoberts washed out of Duke after two under-whelming seasons and Paulus has been supplanted by a sophomore as the Blue Devils' starting
point guard.

That's probably not what Coach K envisioned when he signed the duo, although he is far from the only coach to sign a five-star prospect only to watch him fail to develop into an all-conference type of player.

"It's a very inexact science to be honest with you," longtime recruiting expert Bob Gibbons said of what he does for a living...

Go here for the remainder.

Murray is writing some fantastic stuff. He writes and picks topics like a fan instead of some guy trying to move up the ladder by showing his "journalist" chops. Reno is lucky to have him, while he lasts.
