The other two WAC contests

San Jose State played Washington tough but it was too much 'QP' in the end:

Another ex-Husky returns home. And Quincy Pondexter sets another career scoring high in a Washington victory.

On Sunday, Portland State Vikings absorbed a 56-point defeat during Phil Nelson's Huskies homecoming.

Friday night, Adrian Oliver, who transferred to San Jose State in 2007, looked comfortable inside his old digs. However, the Huskies overwhelmed the Spartans' front line in an 80-70 victory in front of 8,155 at Edmundson Pavilion.

Pondexter, who topped the personal scoring best he set Sunday, finished with 30 points and 15 rebounds, both career highs...

It was a second missed opportunity for the WAC, this one in the islands, as BYU topped Hawaii.

Maybe it's a good thing that Hawaii and BYU don't cross paths often these days.

The Rainbow Warriors' former conference rival doled out an 83-65 beatdown in a 10-year reunion last night at the Stan Sheriff Center.

A season-high crowd of 4,307 had reason to be optimistic when Hawaii (2-2) cut BYU's 10-point halftime lead to five just moments into the second half, but that just put the talented Cougars (3-0) of the Mountain West Conference on upset alert.

BYU stepped up its hustle and anticipation of passes in UH's flex offense and went on a 15-2 run fueled by turnovers to keep its lead near 20 points for the final 10 minutes...

So much for a renewed rivalry.

The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team appeared uninspired in an 83-65 loss to Brigham Young last night.

"It was a situation where we were a little flat tonight for some reason," Hawai'i head coach Bob Nash said. "I can't put my finger on it. Going into the game, I never would have expected us to be out-hustled and I think we just got out-hustled tonight..."
