Chris Murray offers even more on the Nevada - New Mexico State pairing tonight.

With a tip o' the hat to VandalBuff at the Taco Bell Arena Talk MB -- part of the Scout Boise State site -- John Blanchette of the Spokane Spokesman-Review looks at Leon Rice and the task before him.
Not looking to flame or inflame but this description of Boise State hoops appears in the article -- a “sleeping giant” in basketball -- and it's worthy of discussion back and forth in order to decide if that is accurate.
Is anyone in the Mountain West Conference considering a giant? BYU (which is departing)? UNLV? San Diego State? New Mexico? The Cougars have been the winningest. The Rebels are strong of late but any Herculean branding is premature. The same for Steve Fisher's squad. As for NM, the respect is there but a national powerhouse it is not.
Maybe we are over-inflating the definition of giant. Is that it?
