The latest on Gerry Blakes

From a post by club team Branch West Coach Bob Gottlieb: "Gerry Blakes 6'4" pg from Morningside H.S. is a dominant physical specimen. He is learning to be a true pg. Signed with Hawaii a year ago but the NCAA red flagged him re: the on line courses he took. They have asked for additional work to be turned in, which it has, and he is waiting to hear if the NCAA will rule him eligible. Colorado is showing great interest"

Blakes' situation parallels Jarndyce v Jarndyce in Dickens' "Bleak House" -- no resolution until the wealth being argued over has dissipated.

11/01/08: LOUISIANA TECH UPDATE: "Kevin McCarthy over at Parsing the WAC, an excellent source of WAC basketball news, was contacted by somebody familiar with the recent departure of four Louisiana Tech basketball players (which we touched on last week). For those who don't know, Drew Washington, Dwayne Lathan, Orrim Tims and Brandon Mims were dismissed after meeting with coach Kerry Rupp two weeks ago. Lathan said he was blindsided by the decision. McCarthy’s source, who remained anonymous, said there was more to the story than met the eye."
