Tim Douglas chooses Portland

Gauging degrees of interest is hard enough for the various parties involved in any relationship until specifics are spoken so keep that in mind regarding the following.

Scout's Greg Hicks reports (a Scout sub is required) that 5-foot-8 Tim Douglas of Mayfair High in Los Angeles has gone with Portland as his college choice. Hawaii was mentioned as one of the other suitors.

From the PilotNation.net site, comes this evaluation courtesy of ESPN:

December, 2009: Douglas is a pint-sized point guard, but he's a good one nonetheless. Despite his height, he does have long arms, big feet, and can really blaze a trail in transition. He is a true point guard that can really pass in transition and deliver timely passes in the narrowest of situations. He loves to compete at both ends and is a true leader with a high basketball IQ. His jump shot is solid, but with added strength and repetition it should continue to smoothen out. He is an unsigned senior, but he should not have a problem attracting schools at the mid-major level for his services.

August, 2009: Douglas is quite small in stature, but he knows how to play this game. To make up for his lack of size, he has a bevy of moxy and savvy for this game. He manages the game like a seasoned veteran and isn't afraid to make the big play. He pushes the ball well in transition and always has his head up to advance the ball. His handle is slick and clever; which allows him to get into the key to deliver the assist. However, to take his game to another level would be to become a more consistent shooter out to the stripe. He can knock down the shot, but it's the weakest part of his game. Overall, once Douglas adds some upper body strength and continue to mature his game, he should be a solid floor general in the Big Sky or Big West.

October, 2008: Douglas is tiny which makes it difficult to project his collegiate level. However, he has enough all-around talent - if he grows - to make him an intriguing recruit for the next level. He has very good speed and quickness as well as a pretty slick handle. He can handle it equally well with either hand, and his jump shot is solid with range out to the stripe. His overall feel for the game is a work in progress, but he has the mentality of a point guard. Whether Douglas grows - both in terms of size and skill - will determine the level of college basketball he plays.

From the Mayfair High student newspaper -- "The Windjammer" -- comes this.
