seldomseesmith, with his usual doggedness, is reporting that Idaho has a commitment from CA JC big Wendell Faines. One Wendell is departing (maybe) and a new one arrives.
Faines is 6-foot-9 and 235 (here's a link to a couple of photos at the Saddleback College site). He signed with Drake out of high school but didn't qualify academically. He started 26 of 31 games last season, averaging 16 miniutes per contest. Faines shot 51% from the floor and 64% at the foul line, scoring 7.2 points and grabbing 4.9 rebounds each time out. He blocked 55 shots.
In a mid-September post here, Coach Jon Wyers, who is very familiar with southern California junior college basketball, described Faines this way:
"Strictly a low post player. He is more of a high energy guy who rotates very well in team defense. He has great timing on blocking shots and rebounds very well. Very active. His offensive skills are raw but you can see he is developing some post moves and is developing good footwork. I do not think he is a D-1 prospect but is more of a D2/NAIA guy."
