The big boys are moving in

Always, always, always keep in mind that recruiting is fluid, fluid, fluid. A Scout or Rivals story from many months ago can result in a school being 'attached' to a player and vice versa when in fact the school and/or player have moved on to different targets. This is caused by a lack of updates and sometimes just certain facts being overlooked.

As for the latter, Serra High (southern California) senior Keith Shamburger is a great example. Most all the services still have the backcourter committed to Portland because he verbaled very early on to the Pilots. But 'differences' have caused both parties to end their relationship and move on. An article was done on the Rivals network detailing this but it seems to have not taken effect.

There are certainly other examples so just be careful the next time you read such-and-such schools are interested, let alone have offered, a certain player -- it may be accurate, it may be out-dated.

The above is a very long-winded approach to report that a Nevada recruiting target is getting some attention from the big boys. Whether or not Nevada remains interested or vice versa is unknown.

Scout's Tracy Pierson is reporting that 6-foot-1 point Lazeric Jones, at John Logan Junior College in Illinois, is being pursued by UCLA. In fact, the Bruins have offered and he will be taking a visit this month. Others such as the Oklahomas, Arizona, Tennessee and more are sniffing around. Jones does say he would like to trip to Reno but that's the extent of any WAC-related mention.

Go here for the Pierson article (a Scout sub is required).

Here is a 2008 Illinoisbasketball.com article on Jones as a prep senior. Here is another from Illinois Preps BullsEye.

The photo at the top of this entry is of Jones -- it's from his Facebook page.
