Your Saturday WAC game edition

Well, San Jose State did its part going Wolverine hunting in Orem and winning 82-74 over Utah Valley State. The Spartan athletic site has the details here.

+++++

Louisiana Tech bombarded Northwestern State 98-70. That's five in a row for the Bulldogs. Kyle Gibson led the way with 29 points, Olu Ashaolu's 22/12 double-double and Jamel Guyton's 20. The score was 52-30 in LT's favor at the half. Much more tomorrow.

+++++

Boise State went into Champaign and made it close but lost to the Illini 84-77. The Broncos closed the lead to two with 20 second remaining but couldn't forge ahead. Forward Ike Okoye came close to a double-doubler with 20 points and nine rebounds. BSU shot 55.6% from the floor but put up 12 less shots and allowed the host to go 9-18 from three-point range. Much more tomorrow.

+++++

It didn't go too well for New Mexico State but always keep in the back of la cabeza that two Aggies frontcourt starters remain sidelined. Marvin Menzies' squad fell to rival New Mexico 75-58 in The Pit witnessed by a sold-out crowd.

Gordo Castillo led NMSU with 17 points, going to the foul line nine times and making eight. Jahmar Young had 14, taking but nine shots and also contributed a team-leading seven rebounds. Jonathan Gibson scored 10.

The big difference among the teams was turnovers. The Aggies committed 31 during the game. Much more tomorrow.

+++++

It definitely wasn't an Aggie night as St. Mary's came into Logan and grabbed a 68-63 victory -- ending the USU home-winning streak. Omar Sanham is both good and clever in his play -- he finished with 22 points and 17 boards. Kraig Williams liveblogged the game and his reports can be read here.

For some of the inside guys being in foul trouble, there weren't many free throw attempts: 15 for Utah State and 13 for the Gaels. Jared Quayle shot 5-16 overall, 1-6 from long range.

We would love to see a home-and-home and then a third game on a neutral court between these two teams. Much more tomorrow.

+++++

Nevada and host Pacific tangled in the last WAC-involved contest of the evening. The game was tight throughout -- 31-29 Wolf Pack after the initial 20 minutes. But the Tigers came back and won 61-58. More tomorrow.

The WAC RPI won't be Jon Krakauer-ing based on these results.

Fresno State hosts San Diego tomorrow, Hawaii welcomes Lamar and Idaho has Portland coming to Moscow.

I was worried about the Gaels coming into Logan and I was right. I have no desire to see Utah State and St. Marys on a neutral courts. The Gaels won in their home and in Logan. What makes you think a neutral court would have a different result?
