The Sunday roundup of last night's WAC games

Sam Wasson/BleedCrimson.net begins with his take on the Aggie loss to New Mexico:

"As for the Aggie men's basketball team, they suffered a similar fate in Albuquerque playing the Lobos in The Pit. The Aggies once again faced a large halftime deficit as they trailed 41-18 at halftime. The Aggies had as many turnovers, 18, as they had points at the break. Coming into the game the Aggies were averaging around 14 turnovers per game. They finished the game with a whopping 31 turnovers which UNM converted into 36 points. Had the Aggies finished with their season average in turnovers, say around 14, and UNM converted and the same rate (1.16 points per turnover), the Lobos would have finished with roughly 20 fewer points and it's a completely different ballgame..."

ALBUQUERQUE — When you have as many turnovers in a half as points, it's going to be hard to win on the road.

Against a red-hot and unbeaten New Mexico team at the Pit, it's impossible. Regardless of how well you play in the second half.

But that's just what New Mexico State did in the first half on Saturday at the Pit.

UNM went on to beat NMSU for the fifth consecutive time, 75-58, in front of a sold-out crowd of 14,586. The Lobos scored 36 points off 31 Aggies turnovers to beat NMSU for the seventh straight time at the Pit and moved to 8-0 for the first time since 1998-99...

STOCKTON, Calif. -- To understand the importance of the Nevada basketball team's game against Pacific on Saturday night, all you had to do was take one look at the Wolf Pack bench.

Instead of sitting in his usual spot on the Nevada sideline, coach David Carter was up and animated. His voice rattled around the Alex G. Spanos Center. He and his team needed this win.

But like so many times before when Nevada has played at Pacific, the Wolf Pack left Stockton with a loss. This time courtesy of Pacific's 6-0 run to close the game and two sparkling plays by Joe Ford...

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Don't let the final score fool you.

Boise State's game Saturday at Illinois was closer than the 84-77 loss indicated.

And that's why many Broncos had long faces leaving the locker room at Assembly Hall after their upset bid fell a tad short in front of a crowd of 15,903...

LOGAN — A sellout crowd of 10,270 might have seen it differently, but Utah State coach Stew Morrill said the reason his Aggies dropped a hard-fought 68-63 decision to Saint Mary's was simple.

The Gaels are a better team than Utah State is.

"They're better than us right now," Morrill said. "We have to get better. If we want to compete in the WAC, we've got to get better..."

All streaks eventually come to an end.

That still doesn’t make it any easier for the Aggie men’s basketball team to swallow. In fact, it was a downright emotional experience for some to taste defeat at home for the first time in their Utah State career.

The Aggies had their 37-game winning streak — second longest in the nation to Kansas’ 45 — come to an end Saturday night at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. Saint Mary’s hit enough 3-pointers and grabbed some key offensive rebounds off missed free throws to escape with a 68-63 win in front of a soldout crowd of 10,270...

Here is the LA Tech athletics game report on the Bulldog win over Northwestern State:
RUSTON, La. - Senior Kyle Gibson had a career-high 29 points to lead Louisiana Tech to a 98-70 win over Northwestern State on Saturday.

LA Tech never trailed in the game and led by as many as 34. The 98 points scored was the most by a Bulldog team since a 99-97 win at Nevada in 2003.

Tech improved to 7-1 and has won five-straight games, the longest win streak since winning five in the 2004-05 season. The Demons fell to 3-3.

Gibson was very efficient from the floor going 9-of-12 from the field and 6-of-8 from three-point range. It was the second time that that three Bulldogs have recorded 20 in a game this season. Sophomore Olu Ashaolu recorded his fifth double-double of the season with a career-high 22 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Jamel Guyton also recorded a career high with 20 points and added five rebounds...
