From Stephen Trembley, Assistant Director, Communications at Fresno State:

Smith Selected Preseason All-WAC by Blue Ribbon Yearbook
September. 27, 2010

The Fresno State men's basketball team is picked to finish fifth in the Western Athletic Conference by Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook and sophomore center Greg Smith was named to the annual national magazine's preseason All-WAC team.

The `Dogs, under the leadership of head coach Steve Cleveland, finished fifth in the 2009-10 WAC standings and competed in the 2010 WAC Tournament Quarterfinals. The progress marked a four-place improvement from the 2008-09 campaign.

Cleveland, a native of Fresno, Calif., is entering his sixth season at the helm of his hometown team.

Smith, a center and local product out of Fresno's Edison High School, powered the low post for the Bulldog men's basketball team as a starter in every game last season and averaged 12 points and six rebounds per game. He was honored by the WAC head coaches as the second WAC Freshman of the Year in program history, a member of the WAC's All-Newcomer Team and earned a spot on CollegeInsider.com's Freshman All-America team.

In 16 conference games, Smith averaged 11.4 points per contest and 5.8 rebounds per game, while shooting 53.1 percent from the field.

Smith ranked 12th nationally in field goal percentage and tied teammate Paul George, who was drafted No. 10 overall by the Indiana Pacers in the 2010 NBA Draft, with a team-high four double-doubles.
