This is very old news but we still found it interesting. Here's a kid at Long Beach State who probably would be finishing up his career at Hawaii had Riley Wallace not been retired. Call it the vagaries of recruiting as sometimes coaching relationships play a major factor in the decision of where someone ends up.

In the spring of 2007, Brian Freeman was trying to decide upon a destination at which to play NCAA Division I college basketball.
He had just helped lead Oregon's Clackamas Community College team to a 29-4 record and was sorting through scholarship offers from Hawaii, Boise State and San Jose State, and waiting on an invitation to play for Gonzaga that never came.
That's when his coach at Clackamas, Clif Wegner, pulled him aside and thickened his recruiting plot a tad.
"He told me that Coach (Dan) Monson had just gotten the job at Long Beach State, and that he was a guy I might want to play for," said Freeman, now a senior for Monson's 49ers... Go here for the remainder.
