The "Gettin' No Love" train chugs into Boise

The "Gettin' No Love" train is back today with its third entry.

We almost went with point Anthony Thomas here but he was recognized by the league's coaches with his inclusion on the WAC pre-season, all-league, second-team and he's a little too accomplished anyway.

So extending our proverbial necks, wrinkled as they are, we're going with Bronco Paul Noonan.

Noonan is a 6-7 redshirt sophomore and displays training video shooting form. He scored 4.8 ppg. and nabbed 1.3 rpg. last season, shooting 44.4 from the floor, 39.7 on threes. He connected on 86.5 per cent of his foul shots, 45 of 52, along with totaling 14 assists. Noonan played in all 33 games averaging 10.9 minutes a contest.

He'll play the wing or 3 position what with seniors Jamar Greene and Aaron Garner holding down most of the minutes at the two and what will be expected of him is high percentage shooting and point production.

But the offensive key for Noonan obtaining major minutes in 2008-2009 is developing his game beyond being a catch-and-shoot player. Last season, the dual inside threats of Matt Nelson and Reggie Larry provided the other Broncos on the floor with a number of open looks. But that pair is gone and the replacements aren't at that threat level so opposing teams will be able to play Boise much more straight up this season. Granted, Noonan's close to five points in a bit over 10 minutes of play each game was a fine number but he won't be enjoying as many good looks this season.

Greg Graham would love seeing Noonan develop into a separated at birth version -- at least to some degree -- of the just-graduated Tyler Tiedeman. But the well-roundedness of Tiedeman's game took time to develop and the same seems applicable to Noonan.

Noonan will also need to become a defensive factor as he'll be facing opposing player possibilities along the likes of Hawaii's best talent Roderick Flemings, Olu Ashaolu of Louisiana Tech, Nevada's Joey Shaw, Tyler Newbold of USU and possibly NMSU's Jahmar Young.

He may still be a year away from fruition but BSU will need points this season and Noonan's touch and range correlate quite well to putting numbers on the scoreboard.

Watch for him.
