Two Jason Groves reports on the NMSU - New Mexico Highlands game

As fully expected, New Mexico State topped New Mexico Highlands last night. Jason Groves has the stories, an article and a blog entry, in that order.

LAS CRUCES — Jahmar Young showed in spots last season what he is capable of on the offensive end.

Now, as one of three returners with significant experience this year, the New Mexico State sophomore guard showed he is ready to take his game to another level on Friday, scoring 23 points in a 98-73 exhibition game victory over New Mexico Highlands at the Pan American Center. Young was one of five Aggies who finished in double figures.

While Young is a proven player at NMSU, the Aggies enjoyed productive debuts from redshirt freshmen Troy Gillenwater and Hamidu Rahman...

Standouts


Jahmar Young and Jonathan Gibson showed that they will be as advertised so I'm not going to go too much into their performance. All I will say for those who were not in attendance is if they take better care of the ball on the perimeter early and Gibson logs as many minutes as J.Y. and it would have been a massacre. (By the way, Menzies said Gibson was slated to start, but apparently missed a team obligation earlier in the week so hence the limited playing time)...
