This is ominous

It's necessary to point out that it is always the small group of individuals -- the large financial contributors to a certain sport -- who are the only ones who have sway with any college athletic director but media pieces such as the following also carry some importance as they influence the casual fan and the atmosphere towards a certain program.

Marvin Menzies walked into a good situation just over two years ago.

The New Mexico State Aggies were coming off an NCAA tournament appearance and had the pieces in place to win the Western Athletic Conference again. They had strong veterans (Justin Hawkins, Fred Peete, Hatila Passos) and tantalizing prospects (Herb Pope, Jonathan Gibson, Jahmar Young, JayDee Luster). The table was set for Menzies, a lifelong assistant, to make a splash. He said he wanted to build on the success at NMSU and continue to pump life into a program that was the toast of the town.

Now, the team in place is as flat as a tortilla. All the Aggies have done since Menzies' hire is take steps backward. They didn't make the tournament Menzies' first year, fell in the WAC semifinals last season and are now a joke, routinely getting blown out by better, more prepared opponents...

We will offer our own commentary -- specifically on the thoughts expressed here -- after we digest it some more.
