Both San Jose State and Utah State were hosted by Big West members, UC Irvine and Long Beach State respectively, and one emerged victorious while the other lost. But you might have guessed incorrectly.
The Spartans took the measure of the Anteaters 69-56 while the 49ers topped the Aggies 75-62.
Adrian Oliver totaled 31 points (10-19 shooting overall, 3-6 on treys, 8-10 from the foul line) and Justin Graham added 16 on 7-8 shooting to pace SJSU. Oliver was also the rebound leader with eight. As a team, San Jose State shot 50% while holding Irvine to 37%.
+++++
Utah State was out-shot (or the Aggies under-defended) as Stew Morrill's squad went an uncharacteristic 38%, including a woeful 4-20 from three-point range, while allowing Long Beach State to nail 25-49 shot attempts.
6-foot-7 T.J. Robinson earned a double-double of 25 points and 11 boards, going 8-9 from the floor for The Beach. Tai Wesley led USU with 22 points on 10-12 shooting. Jared Quayle finished 2-11 shooting overall and Tyler Newbold went 0-6, missing five from long range.
