When 6-foot, 9-inch Serbian Sasa (pronounced sah-sha) Borovnjak arrived at Veritas Christian Academy two years ago from Belgrade, he was rail thin.
“He weighed just 205 pounds, and now he is at 230,” Veritas coach John Jordan said. “When he first got here, he was soft, and we used to call him ‘Sushi.’ About midway through last year, he went to the hole in practice and dunked all over (Catalin) Baciu. It was from that minute on that he seemed to become a new man.”
And one of the hottest recruits in the mountains...
...Borovnjak, the MVP of last year’s NACA Division I National Tournament, has been offered scholarships by several Division I programs, including Penn State, where he was on an official visit on Monday. Other colleges seeking his services are Gonzaga, Tulane, East Tennessee State, College of Charleston, Fresno State, Western Kentucky and the University of San Francisco...
