Dogs corral Broncos

Well, the torches have been extinguished and pitchforks put back in the barns (for now) in the San Joaquin as Steve Cleveland 'somehow' topped Greg Graham last night.

Fresno State constantly disproves the notion of a secure lead. As long as there is time on the clock, there's a chance the men's basketball team could give a win away or rally to force overtime.

The Bulldogs owned an 18-point second-half lead Monday against Boise State, and the Broncos whittled it down to four with 32 seconds remaining.

But the young Bulldogs matured a bit. Late in the game, they got the ball to their leaders -- Paul George and Sylvester Seay -- and the team knocked down all 10 of its free throws in the final 1:24 to earn its second win of the Western Athletic Conference season, 88-82.

Afterward, a portion of the small crowd above the tunnel made an extra effort to applaud the sweaty Bulldogs as they walked to the locker room...

From the Boise perspective and congrats again for the Idaho Statesman brass for sending Nick Jezierny out on the road in these incredible economic times:

FRESNO, Calif. - The looks on the faces of every Boise State player and coach as they filed out of the locker room after Monday night's 88-82 at Fresno State said it all.

The Broncos were fully aware of the impact of their loss to last-place Fresno State. Instead of sitting alone in second place, Boise State finds itself in a scrum in the WAC with first-place Utah State coming to town on Saturday.

"We had a good opportunity get away from us to separate ourselves from the rest of the league," Boise State coach Greg Graham said. "And now we've made it a jumble for second down through about seventh."

Playing their fourth road game in a row, the Broncos (16-7 overall, 6-4 WAC) could blame their defense for the loss to the Bulldogs (10-14, 2-7)...
