Hernst Laroche scored a career-high 16 points for New Mexico State in an 80-70 Western Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal victory over Boise State on Thursday at the Lawlor Events Center in Reno, Nev.

NMSU entered the contest ranked No. 5 in the WAC while Boise State was slotted as the No. 4 seed...

...After his team erased a 10-point deficit in the first half for a two-point halftime lead, Aggie junior guard Jonathan Gibson scored 17 of his team-high 22 points in the second half.

Gibson was 8-of-17 from the field and tied a career-high for 3s made, shooting 5-of-9 from long range. He knocked down a triple give the Aggies a 46-38 lead with 17:05 to play. It was part of an 8-0 NMSU run early in the second half...

The Boise State men’s basketball team got the start it wanted in Thursday’s WAC Tournament quarterfinal against New Mexico State but definitely not the finish.

The Broncos dropped an 80-70 decision to the Aggies at the Lawlor Events Center and now must wait to see if an invitation comes from one of college basketball’s lower-tier postseason tournaments to keep their season alive.

“This was a very painful loss, and I don’t want to end my senior year like this,” said BSU forward Mark Sanchez, who had team-high totals of 25 points and 12 rebounds. “I’m still hoping there is a chance for postseason and that I get to put on that uniform one more time because I’m not ready to call it quits playing college basketball...”
