What does Hawaii do?

We posted something about this earlier and Ferd Lewis is back with more. To us, it's a no-brainer -- do what Lewis suggests, period. Otherwise, it's yet another lost year for recruiting and the next coach will be situated behind the same eight-ball.

Saturday night's University of Hawai'i men's basketball game against New Mexico State would be the annual "Senior Night" for the Rainbow Warriors — if they had any.

Instead, what they have are seven juniors. Well, eight, if you count their head coach, Bob Nash.

Nash, you see, is concluding the penultimate season of his original three-year deal, meaning that without a rollover, the next season is the last one for which he is contracted.

That is a situation UH should remedy sooner rather than later with an extension...

For those who don't know, Drew Washington, Dwayne Lathan, Orrim Tims and Brandon Mims were dismissed after meeting with coach Kerry Rupp two weeks ago. Lathan said he was blindsided by the decision. McCarthy’s source, who remained anonymous, said there was more to the story than met the eye."
