Nick Jezierny's ALL-WAC selections

We love this time of the year not only for the Big Dancin' but also for the various all-league selections. Here's Nick Jezierny with his choices. Enjoy:

Nick Jezierny's all-WAC team
Idaho Statesman
3/04/09

POINT GUARD

® Mac Hopson, Idaho

There is no player who has more important to his team than Hopson, who averages 16.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 1.8 steals and plays 34.1 minutes per game. He'd be the Most Valuable Player of the conference if the criteria for the award was "most valuable player" and not "player of the year..."

Go here for the remainder.

Meh. I can't understand anyone that would put Oliver on the first team ahead of Seay. Yes Oliver has good scoring, but he missed 40% of SJSU's games and since joining the team the Spartans have a slightly better record in games he missed than games in which he played. He might be the best SG in the conference, but he's got to prove it on the floor. What's your take Kevin, since SJSU is your bailiwick?

Patrick,

I think Adrian Oliver is the second leader scorer in the WAC, based on a points per game average (doing this from memory which is always dangerous). Ordinarily that would merit first-team inclusion. But the missed games and the games seen by opposing coaches where he played injured (still happening actually) will be a negative factor. We see him as a possibility for the second team based on all these reasons. There is no doubt where he would have landed if healthy but that hasn't been the case. Sylvester Seay HAS to be a first-teamer -- he has been a monster of late and is currently second in scoring and fourth in rebounding. We're with you on these two points.
