WAC men’s hoops preview
March 7,2009
This is it.
Two furious months of battling across half the nation, from Ruston to Honolulu, Las Cruces to Moscow, conclude tonight in the final regular season games for the nine teams of the Western Athletic Conference. It’s March Madness eve, for the 8/9 play-in game tips off on Tuesday evening and four back-to-back-to-back-to-back quarterfinals begin on Wednesday afternoon.
It’s difficult to believe that in just seven days, the 2009 WAC Tournament champion will be crowned and with it, a ticket punched for the NCAA’s Big Dance. The conference season, looking so long and torturous back in January, now seems to have lasted but an eyeblink. With this final regular-season preview, I want to thank all my readers for coming along with me on the Vandal Nation ride — I hope I’ve both entertained and enlightened you all, and we’re going to keep improving every day.
Incredibly, after 68 games, there are still seven teams battling for seeding position in the last night of play, just as there were on Thursday afternoon. Only #1 Utah State and #9 Fresno State have secured their positions at the front and rear, respectively, of the WAC pack... Go here for the remainder.
