Brandon Davies declines Gonzaga

Let's preface this with the official statement that neither Brandon Davies nor his family have consulted with us about his college destination -- yes, we agree that overlooking our assistance is a grievous error ;-) -- but our gut feeling is that he will decide between BYU and Cal. Not that we're going to bet the mortgage on that but doing so wouldn't be such a gamble considering we could always turn to Washington for a bailout. Anyway, here's Jay Drew with the latest.

The race to land one of the top high school basketball players in Utah just got a little less crowded.

Provo High's 6-foot-9 Brandon Davies told a reporter from the Oakland Tribune, Jeff Faraudo, on Tuesday that he has eliminated Gonzaga from the list of schools he is interested in attending..

For those who don't know, Drew Washington, Dwayne Lathan, Orrim Tims and Brandon Mims were dismissed after meeting with coach Kerry Rupp two weeks ago. Lathan said he was blindsided by the decision. McCarthy’s source, who remained anonymous, said there was more to the story than met the eye."
