Relying on memory is dangerous, specially at this age, but 6-6, 180 freshman Markese Fields appears to be a new player of interest for Utah State. That's the word from notes on the Antelope Valley (CA) junior college site -- which by the way is easily the most informative community college basketball site in the country.
"...Utah State - Fields redshirted last year at Seward County Community College in Liberal, KS. Fields, a small forward from Menlo Park, CA, can leave with three years to play at the four year level..." &
"...Six Division I schools spent many hours at Antelope Valley College looking at the basketball talent but also meeting with the Academic Advisor for athletics to see how the player as a whole will fit into their program..."
The D-1 universities visiting Antelope Valley College this week were:
1. Montana University
2. Pepperdine University
3. Long Beach State University
4. San Francisco University
5. Detroit University
6. Utah State University Here's a take on Fields from ESPN:
"10/5/2008
Fields exploded onto the scene at the Rumble in the Bay spring (2007) tournament. He possesses a lanky frame with very long arms and overall great length for the three. He is very explosive in the open court and can definitely finish in impressive fashion. His perimeter skills are somewhat raw at this point, but his handle in the open court is solid, however, in the half-court set it gets a tad shaky, especially his left hand. His jump shot is solid as well with definite range out to the stripe, but there is definite room for improvement as his release is pretty flat. Fields has a very good upside for the wing position and with continued development in the areas of shooting and decision-making, he could very well reach the mid-high division one level."
