We try not to get all argumentative when we read something that appears full of fallacies but sometimes our level-headedness just deserts us. Or maybe it is the other way around with the latter. The Washington Times newspaper recently had a feature on JaVale McGee and portions of it just don't describe the JM we saw play.
The article begins with:
Defense is McGee's priority

When asked a week before training camp whether rookie center JaVale McGee had a chance to crack the Washington Wizards' rotation, coach Eddie Jordan quickly answered, "Uh, no."
Although he was an exceptional athlete with great potential who averaged 14.1 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.8 blocks for Nevada as a sophomore, McGee wasn't yet NBA-ready, Jordan explained. Now we were doing okay at this point. But then...
"...McGee said he was asked to do a little bit of everything at Nevada: rule the boards, divert shots in the paint and score in a variety of ways. In college, he displayed a textbook hook shot, acrobatic dunks, a nice fadeaway jumper and 3-point range while ranking 14th in the nation in blocked shots..." Huh?
The second line doesn't appear to be a quote from McGee (unlike the first line) so "textbook hook shot" and ""a nice fadeaway jumper" and "3 point range" comes off as an evaluation. Granted, we didn't see McGee play in all that many games but this trio of offensive weapons for McGee were VERY hit-and-miss when displayed and nowhere near count-on-'em parts of his arsenal. They may very well develop into solid point producers for him but not just yet.
